Captain Underpants

The boys are so excited about their newly purchased Captain Underpants
books that they decided to wait outside the grocery store and read
while the Polack and I went in to get some milk.

Side note - Do you see how Nicklas is in shorts and a t-shirt and
Seeger is in jeans and a long sleeve shirt? That's so typical. Nicklas
is always hot and Seeger is always cold.

I'm registered to vote...

Too bad the voter registration folks don't know how to proofread their
emails. The online site said that over 14,000 Indiana residents have
registered online. I wonder of they all received the same email?

Random Tuesday Thoughts

1. I'm not really looking forward to the month of October. I have work obligations every single weekend. The one bright spot of the month will be a trip to quilt camp. Hopefully it will rejuvenate and energize me to keep on truckin'.

2. I only use the phrase "keep on truckin'" because todaly my colleague received an email from the higher up who tried to use the same phrase. Except he said he was going to keep on trunkin'.

3. My friends are in a contest to win the opportunity to get married in Washington DC. They are one of five couples. If you have a moment, please take time to vote for Tonya and Amy. They are the couple with the two cute kids. Voting ends at midnight on Thursday. Here is the Freedom2Wed site. Vote now, please!

4. I just got a call from someone who wants to make a $10,000 gift for a scholarship. I wish fundraising was always this easy!

5. I currently have tv overload. So many shows to watch. Can't keep up! Has anyone seen Mike and Molly? I love me some Sookie St. James. We'll see how Melissa McCarthy does in this show.

6. We were talking about Halloween costumes today at work. I love Halloween! The boys have already decided on their costumes - Nicklas wants to be a basketball palyer and Seeger wants to be a pirate. Those are both pretty easy!

Furry things are living in my front yard

While moving (almost) the rest of our stuff out of the Lafayette house last weekend, I saw some dead weeds in our yard. Wondering who pulled weeds and threw them in the middle of my yard, I went to check them out. As I reached down and pulled back the weeds, I saw something moving underneath. I'm not sure if I screamed or yelped or what but I soon realized I had come across a rabbit nest.

I tried to put everything back the way I found it. Hopefully mama is taking good care of her babies.

Learning and Stuff

This first picture is of the boys doing their homework.

This second picture is of the boys reading. I love that they love to read! Nicklas has always been an excellent reader but I feel like lately, he isn't reading challenging books. In fact, he's been gravitating toward Sports Illustrated and anything else sports related. So I picked up the Dark is Rising series for him the other day and he's started the first book.

Seeger finally has enough confidence to read books before Dr. Seuss. He's been very excited to start reading chapter books and so I took him to the book store to pick one out. He chose Captain Underpants and finished it within a day. He's now waiting for the fifth book of the series.

My little readers!!

A Letter from Nicklas

I would going through some old papers today and I ran across this letter that Nicklas wrote the first week of school. I thought it would be a good thing for the scrapbook. It is to his teacher.

Dear Mrs. Darby,

Hi! My name is Nicklas and I like math. My dad is a math teacher and my mom works at IU. I will tell you that I don't have very good handwriting and not the best spelling. However, I am good at math.

The books I like are sports books and Harry Potter and the science fiction. I read all the Harry Potter's in first grade.

I have lived in Lafayette, Indiana my whole life and moved to Bloomington July 1. So I don't know anybody. Besides my parents, I have a brother who is six and now in first grade. I also have a dog named Freddy and a frong named Yzerman. My dad's side all live in or around Detroit except for his cousin who lives in California and my grandparents who live in Lafayette. My cousins live in Delphi, Indiana, 20 minutes from Lafayette. My mom has family in Fort Wayne, next to a lake that is small and on the Indiana border, in Spencer, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Indianapolis, Long Island, Oxford, and Ann Arbor.

Last year we hosted an exchange student from Norway.

I am sports crazy. I like baseball and hockey so those are my hobbies.

My great grandparents came from Poland on my dad's side. My granddad lived in Detroit as a boy then went to IU. Also, my dad went to IU where he met my mom.

I can't wait for the school year.

Sincerely,
Nicklas

First Tailgate

I'm a bit delayed in posting pictures from our first tailgate of the season. It was a Thursday game so I didn't make it until after I finished up at work. The Polack, the boys, and the in-laws were already there. The McClain family also joined us.

Picture Day

Today is picture day at the boys school. I actually ordered packages for both. The grandparents will be pleased.

Seeger's teacher posted an informal class picture on her blog:

Seeger looks bored but at least he's not make a goofy face like the boy in green. The blond girl, next to the boy in green, is the girl who won't let Seeger sit with her on the bus. This makes him sad but he has another girl who he says is his girlfriend. I'll have to askhim point her out. I'm not sure of her name - he calls her Lin Jin.

Not pictured is the Seeger's friend who rides the bus with him. Seeger doesn't know his name but apparently, he's a big fan of Super Mario Brothers. So Seeger calls him Mario Guy.

Random Thought Thursday

Let the not-so-randomness begin....

1. I was just getting ready to heat up my lunch when I looked at the clock and realized it was only 10:20am. Too early for lunch - blah!

2. Seeger is all recovered and back to school. Really, he was only sick one day but because we try to follow the fever free/vomit free for 24 hour rule, I kept him home a second day. It allowed me to run some errands and get things done that I normally don't have time for. Oil change? Check! Boy Scout uniform purchase? Check! Trip to the hardware store? Check!

3. One of our errands was going to the bookstore. Seeger had a gift card and I wanted him to use it. He picked out a few books and a package of Silly Bands. Later that night, he mentioned something about returning the books and I realized that he didn't understand that concept of a book store - he thinks of them as libraries. The Polack and I told him several times that the books are his to keep and we only made him nervous.

4. The Polack and I got ALMOST all our stuff moved last weekend. For the most part, it went well. We only lost our refrigerator and a bookcase during the move so I think we did pretty well.

5. I just got done working out and my hair is all sweaty and wet. Eww. And I have a meeting with my Dean in 10 minutes. Ewww...

6. So things at work are going really, really well for me. Really well. Busy. But really well. Yay for fun jobs that are mentally challenging and co-workers who are pleasant and nice and funny and entertaining.

7. I think I stole my grandmother's pillow. I didn't mean to but we came home from the Lake with an extra pillow. I should probably call her. If she realizes it's missing than she'll be very worried about it and it will consume her every thought. Of course if she doesn't have a missing pillow to worry about then she'll find something else to focus her energy on so maybe I should hold off on calling her.

8. I'm going to quilt camp in a few weeks. Huzzah! The bad news is that I have to leave one evening to attend a work event. Which means I'll drive two hours to the event, spend 3 hours at the event, and then drive 2 hours back to camp. Man, that's a 7 hour block that I'll miss. sniffsniff

9. I miss Arrested Development. Such a funny show! Bring it back!

10. I had to get my professional photo taken yesterday which I totally forgot about when I was getting ready in the morning. So I definitely wasn't wearing what I wanted to and I wasn't happy with my hair. It will be posted on our website. Boo...

My Seeger is sick. Dry heaving every 30 minutes. Poor guy!

Moving Day

I'm trying not to tear up... I'm really going to miss this house.

Choo Choo

The Polack and I went to see Train on Tuesday. It was a great show! Our seats were pretty good - 10th row! Pat Monahan has a bit of an ego but he grew on me. His stage dancing cracks me up. The pictures aren't good - I know - but it's the best I could do.

I had planned to leave you with a few videos - especially of my favorite song Save Me San Francisco. HOWEVER, stupid Blogger isn't letting me post videos. Grrrr....

Random Thought Thursday

1. Today at lunch, I went to a restaurant that serves soda in 32 oz pitchers. I LOVE those pitchers!

2. The Polack just called and Seeger failed to get off the bus this afternoon. Trying. Not. To. Freak. Out. He always rides the bus home except yesterday he went to after-care for the first time. So I'm guessing he did the same thing today because darn-it, I didn't talk to him about going back to his regular schedule when I dropped him off this morning. The Polack is on his way to the school to look for him. DEEP BREATH.

3. Whoa, did I drink a lot of soda today.

4. I got tons of work done today so I don't feel guilty for blogging at 3:30 in the afternoon.

5. Plus how can I work when Seeger is missing? (Apparently, I can't work but I can blog. Does that make me a bad mom??)

6. Speaking of blogs... have you checked out my quilting blog lately? I don't post often but I'm trying to be better! Other quilt bloggers post finished projects every week. I've finished three quilts this year so I feel like quite the slacker.

7. Okay, it's been 15 minutes and the Polack hasn't called me about Seeger. It only takes four minutes to get to the school. I am FREAKING out right now.

8. Just called the Polack - Seeger is SAFE AND SOUND. He was at after-care and apparently was a little embarrassed when he realized he wasn't supposed to be there. I guess I should contact his teacher to figure out exactly what happened.

9. My stupid iPhone hasn't been posting my status updates on Facebook. I had some good ones this week!

10. I have some work trips coming up - Chicago, New York, and Florida.

Okay, I'm off to use the facilities. I really did have too much to drink today.

Fancy, fancy!

I love this picture because I think Seeger did a fantastic job with
his definitions. I also love the third box where he makes a fancy S.
The Polack's mom told me he made fancy letters at that age, too.

Random Thought Friday

1. Every morning when I take Seeger to school, I ask if he wants me to drop him off at the door or if he wants me to walk him in. He told me he ALWAYS wants me to take him in because that means he gets to spend more time with me.

2. Seeger's teacher has a blog. Now that's my kind of teacher!

3. So we sold our house! Yep, that's right. WE. SOLD. OUR. HOUSE! It went down like this - crappy offer Monday evening, a hard counter offer on our part, a not-quite-as-bad-but-still-crappy VERBAL offer late Monday night, a you-better-up-the-ante-or-forget-about-it email response from us, a we-can-defnitely-work-with-this offer from them on Tuesday, a we-really-want-to-work-with-you-but-we-want-a-few-thousand-more-from-you counter offer by us and then at 5:12pm I got a call from our realtor letting us know our counter offer was accepted. Woo hoo!!

4. Of course, all this happened after our new appliances and countertops were ordered and paid for. I haven't seen the appliances but I'm positive I will cry when I do because they will be staying with the house and not coming to Bloomington with me.

5. Last night was the first tailgate of the season. I don't normally have to do anything except enjoy my drink and food the Polack prepares. But darn it all, now that we're in Bloomington, our Lafayette buddy, Marty, isn't coming with us to tailgate. He'll join us for a few games this year but now I have to help with the prepping, packing, unloading, setting up, cleaning up, tearing down, and unpacking. I was definitely missing Marty last night when it was midnight and I was unloading the car. I even sent him a text telling him so and he was like, "yeah, but if I was helping it would mean we'd be driving back to Lafayette and you still wouldn't be home." Which is true but he forgets that I would also spend the drive home SLEEPING so the length of the trip doesn't really matter. I've unkowingly become the Polack's #2 guy and I'm NOT HAPPY in this role.

I think it's time to train Nicklas.

6. Woo boy, have I been busy at work this week. But it's been a good busy and the team I work with is awesome and we laugh EVERY DAY and I love it.

7. Oh my god, we sold our house! This is good but it means that I have to pack up my house. My entire house. And put everything.... where? In storage. My house that's two hours away. By October 5. Less than five weeks.

Oh my god, I have less than five weeks to pack up my house that's two hours away and put everything in storage.

Calgon.

8. Cheryl's Quilt Shop is having a 25 fat quarters for $25 sale this weekend. I wish I could go shopping! I wonder how many people who actually read this blog will care about #8.

9. Now that we sold our house, the Polack wants to purchase season tickets for IU basketball. At least you don't tailgate before basketball games. (Yikes, I don't want to give anyone any ideas!)

10. Now that we sold our house, I want to buy tickets to see Michael Frante AND Ingrid Michaelson. We'll see what happens...

Football

I started an RTT but I didn't have a chance to finish it. It's
football time!
